Zine Making Workshop

August 12, 2018 @ 12:00 - 15:00

Free

DESCRIPTION
Zines are self-published publications with a history rooted in DIY cultures. Join Numbi for two collaborative zine making sessions which will result in the publication of a digital Numbi Zine at the end of our residency. We also encourage digital submissions from our Numbi Fam globally (deadline 19th August). We invite you to explore your influences and take part in contributing to the zine through a range of artistic mediums. The theme we wish to reflect on is repair and rebellion.

Numbi festival 2018. Following the festival launch on July 21 at the Rich Mix, Numbi will continue their Cross-Current-Diasporic wanderings in partnership with the Tower Hamlet Local History Library and archive at The Women’s Hall Exhibtion. This Numbi takeover will be an opportunity for dialogue participation and collaboration. In this space we will share our mobile archive exhibition “Aqal” and carry out a month-long residency with an accompanying program. In form of an experimental Co-Lab project with female artists using modern and innovative approaches. The participating artists will draw inspiration from the exhibition currently up at Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives and transform the space into a co-working studio. We will continue our inquiry into the role of women in Rebellion and Repair and invite community participation through workshops, conversations and screenings. The work they develop will be absorbed into the “Aqal” Numbi Coming Here, Being Here Mobile Archive. Aqal is A Mobile Archive and Exhibition site at the Women’s Hall. Coming Here, Being Here is a trans-disciplinary community arts project, examining the Somali Presence in the East End of London to critically engage histories of black diasporas.
