Numbi Arts: Social, spatial and environmental relations
August 28, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
As we begin our design process for Numbi Village in Gambia for 2020 Project this workshop brings in the perfect opportunity to explore some of our key ideas to our Numbi audience.
The project will be designed as prototype for exploring affordable methods of construction, which can improve the quality of life for the local partners and us. We want to get the participants to explore some of the ideas of self sustainability and community, focus in particular on how these ideas might manifest; get realised; what kind of decision-making might be involved in a new approach to sustainable community design; and how this all begins to transform the role of the designer. The outcome will form part of our collective design, our continuing group interests on health living, sustainability and sustainable communities. This intentional design process we hope will allow participants/architects of the projects to start thinking that another kind of relation between space, social relation and environment development.
Abiel is a student from the London School of Architecture. He enjoys working at the edge of interesting disciplines including design, social sciences, and activism. For the last 3 year, Abiel has worked with Numbi studio and various architects who take interest in the way social, ecological and economic currents are reflected in physical and visual environments, and the role that design has.
All Numbi Arts Festival 2018 events are free. As we are a non-profit organisation run by unpaid volunteers, we recommend a-pay-what-you-can donation. This festival is suitable for all ages and is wheelchair accessible.
