Join us as Numbi Arts facilitates this screening and discussion with the film’s producers, Khadra Ali and Muna Ali of Refuge Productions.

Sharing their thoughts to this discussion, an eminent group of fellow women in including Tower Hamlets Councillor Amina Ali and acclaimed Somali novelist Nadifa Mohamed.

About the film

SHADEISM: DIGGING DEEPER Runtime: 58 min (2015) explores the issue of ‘shadeism’, it’s origins and how it directly affects women, well as ways communities can collectively confront and readdress ‘shadeism’ to move forward.

Refuge Productions: is a production house based in Toronto. It was founded by producers Khadra Ali, Muna Ali, and Nayani Thiyagarajah – the daughters of refugees who have found sisterhood in sharing.


‘’Ours is a journey of continuously creating our own content, reclaiming collective and individual ownership of our stories, and defining and redefining ourselves. Ultimately, we believe that art is refuge.
